Build Your Future with CMI
CMI’s internship program gives students the opportunity to turn classroom knowledge into real-world experience. Interns work alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals, contribute to active projects and gain firsthand exposure to the design, coordination, fabrication and installation of complex mechanical systems.
Through hands-on assignments, technical training, facility and jobsite experiences and connections across the company, interns develop practical skills while learning how successful projects come together. Our goal is to provide a meaningful introduction to the industry and help the next generation of professionals build confidence, relationships and a strong foundation for their careers.
From their first day, CMI interns are treated as contributing members of the team, gaining hands-on experience while working alongside experienced industry professionals. Depending on their department and assigned projects, interns may assist with engineering calculations, drawing reviews, project documentation, coordination meetings, budgeting, scheduling, and other day-to-day responsibilities.
Jobsite visits and tours of CMI’s 180,000-square-foot fabrication facility give interns a broader understanding of how engineering, fabrication, project management, and field installation work together. Company activities also provide opportunities to connect with employees across the organization and build meaningful professional relationships.
By the end of the summer, interns leave with stronger technical and professional skills, greater confidence, a broader network, and a clearer understanding of the career paths available within the mechanical construction industry.
