The Long Beach Civic Center redevelopment transformed more than 620,000 square feet across six city blocks in downtown Long Beach, creating a new civic campus anchored by an approximately 270,000-square-foot City Hall, 232,000-square-foot Port of Long Beach Headquarters, and 93,500-square-foot Billie Jean King Main Library. The two 11-story office buildings provide modern workplaces for City and Port operations, while the new library and surrounding public spaces expand the campus’s civic and community functions. The City Hall and Port Headquarters achieved LEED Gold certification, while the Billie Jean King Main Library achieved LEED Platinum.

CMI provided HVAC design-assist services for the replacement Civic Center campus, including the City Hall, Port Headquarters, two-story underground parking garage and central utility plant, and new public library. The mechanical systems incorporated underfloor displacement ventilation, chilled- and heating-water systems, CRAH units, and integration with rooftop photovoltaic systems. Extensive coordination supported the installation of high-performance mechanical infrastructure across the diverse office, civic, parking, and public spaces within the campus.
