Santa Monica City Yards Modernization

The Santa Monica City Yards Modernization transformed the City’s 14.7-acre public works campus into a modern operations center supporting essential municipal services. The approximately 56,000-square-foot project includes new operational and administrative facilities serving fleet and street services, facilities maintenance, water resources, resource recovery and recycling, storage, and other industrial functions. The modernization replaced aging infrastructure while improving circulation, safety, and efficiency across a campus that remained operational throughout construction.

CMI delivered HVAC systems supporting the campus’s fleet maintenance, administration, storage, and industrial environments. The project also included a new fire training facility with a 15,000-square-foot buildout supporting the Santa Monica Fire Department’s training operations. Developed through a progressive design-build approach, the broader modernization incorporated high-performance sustainability strategies and is designed to achieve net-zero energy following installation of its planned solar systems.
