The United Airlines Terminal 7 Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) project at Los Angeles International Airport renovated approximately 46,500 square feet of existing terminal space to modernize baggage screening and processing operations. The new system was designed to provide 100% in-line baggage screening and incorporated four CTX 9800 explosive-detection machines, new ticket-counter and curbside baggage feeds, and an upgraded baggage make-up area. The improvements formed part of United Airlines’ broader modernization of Terminals 7 and 8, which replaced the existing CBIS with a more efficient, high-speed system.

CMI provided design-build HVAC services for the remodeled baggage inspection facility, delivering mechanical system upgrades coordinated around active airport operations and phased construction. The work required careful integration with the new baggage screening infrastructure while maintaining functionality within the operating terminal throughout construction.
